Wheel alignment, also referred to as tracking or motion balance of a vehicles road wheels, can be completed for various reasons:

- As part of routine maintenance,

- For safety certification following accident repair

- For any Motorsport application

 

4 wheel alignment consists of adjusting the angles of the wheels so that they are set to the car manufacturers specification. The purpose of these adjustments is to ensure, good road handling, for example, the vehicle travel is straight and true (without "pulling" to one side), and appropriate tyre wear.

 

Alignment angles can also be altered beyond the manufacturers specifications to obtain a specific handling characteristic. Motorsport and off-road applications may call for angles to be adjusted well beyond "normal" for a variety of reasons.
